Day Two: Boston/Cape Cod Trip

Day Two:

We started out day two bright and early. We decided to rent a car and drive to Plymouth and Cape Cod. It was very rainy all day long. For the most part, we still got to see and do everything we had planned.

First, we stopped in Plymouth. As you probably know, Plymouth is where the Pilgrims set up one their first colonies in America. Here are a few pics of the things we saw.

Mayflower II. This is a replica of the Mayflower. Tiny, huh? Can you believe that over 100 pilgrims sailed over to America in this thing?




Plimoth Plantation. This plantation had a 17th Century pilgrim village, as well as an Indian village. It was really cool because the Pilgrims were in character the entire time.






After we were done looking at things in Plymouth, we began traveling through Cape Cod. The first town we stopped in was Sandwich, MA. We went into the glass museum to see a glass-blowing demonstration, which was pretty cool. We also drove past a grist mill that is still in operation. As you can see, it is pretty tiny and they charged $3.00 per person to go inside, so we just took pictures!






Then we headed off to Dennis, MA to eat lunch at Captain Frosty's, which we had read about ahead of time. This was the best meal we had all week, and definitely the best fish we have ever had! We decided to try fish and chips (cod), a lobster roll, clam fritters, and clam chowder. The fish was so fresh that it fell apart. It was AMAZING and neither one of us is a big fish eater!




After we were stuffed to the gills, we kept driving until we reached the Cape Cod National Seashore. Originally we had planned on swimming, but the weather changed our plans! It was still beautiful, and unlike any beaches down here in the south. The water was SO COLD! It was unbelievable.







We also got to see several lighthouses along the way. They were so pretty to look at. We even went up inside one, but it was so foggy that you couldn't see very far out. It was still a neat experience though.







Our last stop on the Cape was the very tip, Provincetown, MA. This is where the Pilgrims actually stopped before they headed to Plymouth. It was a quaint little town. Unfortunately by the time we made it there it was pretty much pouring down rain, so we just had dinner. We ate at The Lobster Pot, and had our first Lobster dinner ever. We even turned them both into "clambakes" so that we could get clam chowder or lobster bisque, salad, steamed mussels, corn, and potatoes. We were STUFFED! It was sooo yummy though.








After dinner we began the 2 hour drive back to Boston. Needless to say, we were full, but exhausted!

Day One: Boston/ Cape Cod Trip

Casey and I just spent 3 days in Boston and Cape Cod Massachusetts. I decided in February that I wanted to surprise Casey with a trip to somewhere for his birthday, because he had never flown before. I thought Boston would be cool because I figured we could go see a Red Sox game, and other things. It was tons of fun!

Day One:

Our flight for Chicago left at 7:00am on Wednesday, the 12th. I was very nervous b/c our layover in Chicago was only going to be for about 40 minutes. Our plane left about 20 minutes late, so I was even more nervous! We made it by the skin of our teeth, in fact they were calling us on the speaker! One of my favorite parts of that flight was crossing over the great lakes. It was so beautiful!



We arrived in Boston at about 1:30 and figured out the bus and rail system pretty quickly. It was pretty cloudy and drizzly, but luckily it wasn't raining so we were still able to do what we had planned for that day. We spent a couple of hours walking the freedom trail, which is a 2.5 mile walk passing by some historical parts of Boston. Here are some of my favorite parts of the trail:

Old North Church. This is the church that they hung the lanterns on to signal Paul Revere to warn people that the British were coming.

Paul Revere's Grave. He was buried in the Old Granary Burying ground. We also saw Samuel Adam's grave, Benjamin Franklin's parents' grave, and John Hancock's grave.



Old South Meeting House. This is where the declaration of indpendence was read on 1776.



Along the way we also stopped in Little Italy at a pastry shop called Mike's Pastry. Umm. It was AMAZING! We hadn't eaten much that day, thank goodness, and we loaded up on treats. We had the Boston cream pie, a chocolate moose cannoli, and a lobster tail which is that HUGE pastry Casey is biting into!




We made it through most of the Freedom Trail, before heading over to Fenway Park to watch the Red Sox play the Detroit Tigers. There are not really words to describe the experience of being there. It was just so historical and so amazing to actually see the Green Monster in person! I am not even that big of a baseball fan, but it was a definite highlight of the trip.

Outside Fun

Usually it is WAY too hot to go outside! Unless you go early in the morning or in the evening! Casey is out of town right now (with the youth, at the Rock the Desert Concert) and so I had to find some things for Kailey and I to do! This evening we went outside and played with Sidewalk Chalk for the first time. She seemed to really enjoy it. It was a nice little treat to get out of the house and do something different. Here are some pics:








We also went outside and played at the park behind our house for a bit. Here are some pics I took of us playing at the park earlier in the summer. I just forgot to post them! This park is a really big, nice park in Temple that we go to sometimes! She LOVES playing on the slides and the tunnels. She is not afraid at all to just throw her body down the tall slides! She's a daredevil!

20 months

Kailey is 20 months old today! I cannot believe she is only 4 months away from being 2! I wish that I was one of those fantastic mothers that keeps a list of all the words their child can say, but I'm not. But I can tell you that Kailey knows a LOT of words. Probably too many to count. Now you may not know what she is saying when she talks, but most of the time I do, since I am with her all the time. Here are some of my faves that she's learned recently:

"wacker" (Cracker)
"teese" (Cheese)
"Wah" (Walk)
"Wah" (Rock)
"Mee-nah" (banana)
"Apuh" (apple)
"Pahker" (Parker) Matt and Erin's son
"bye bye da da" (Her first little sentence cluster)
"Ehmo" (Elmo)
"Emmy" (for her Aunt Emily)
"La wah" (for her Aunt Laura)
"me me" or "be de" (for my mom, her Grammy)
"poon" (spoon and fork)
"pah" (pot)

It seems like she learns a new word everyday. She just picks up on everything now!

My favorite thing that she does when she plays is when she pretends she is me. She grabs one of her stuffed animals, and her purse, and says "bye bye" and puts the animal on her hip and toddles off. It is the cutest thing ever, and hopefully I'll get it on camera soon!

It has been so fun being her mommy so far, and I can't wait for what the coming years have in store. Kailey is such a blessing, and I just can't imagine loving her any more than I already do, but everyday my love just keeps growing. I am so thankful for her!
