It was her first real year to participate at VBS. She had lots of fun on the Boomerang Express! (Even thought it may not look like it in this picture..)

The Dreaded Poop Phase

***This post is not for the weak stomached blog-reader****

I had heard these mom horror stories of moms finding babies in their cribs covered in poop. My mother, for one, told me that my youngest sister Laura went through a phase where she woke up every morning covered in her own poop. Well I guess you could say, we have entered our very own poop phase.

For awhile now, Kailey has been waking up most mornings with a very nasty, leaky, poopy diaper. We have been having to strip her, bathe her, strip the bed, scrub the bed, etc. It's NOT fun. To say the least.

But now, I am afraid, we have another very nasty twist in our poop phase.

It is called the "I'm going to poop, strip, and smear phase".

A month or so ago, I went into Kailey's room after her nap, and she was standing in her crib completely naked, clothes piled on the floor. It wasn't so bad.

Today however, was a different bird.

We went in to get our very sneaky, quiet daughter, only to find her sitting in her crib with her shirt only hanging on to her by it's arms (The rest of it was behind her head), no pants, no diaper, and a clump of poo sitting her crib. The poo was smeared on the bed, on her body, and most disgustingly, on her face.

My mom asked the doctor, when Laura went through her poop phase, if it would harm her if she ate it. The doctor said "It's her own poop, so she'll be fine".

I REALLY hope Kailey didn't do that, but I guess we'll never know.

I don't like this phase.

An Animal Interview

Kailey has been learning all sorts of animal noises for awhile now, so I thought I'd make a video of her saying some of them. I didn't realize it would look like she was going through some sort of interrogation process(nor did I realize the fact that she is showing "baby cleavage"). I love to hear her talk. It's pretty cute!

Lately

We have been pretty busy lately (as you can tell from the lack of posts!). This past week was our church's VBS. We had it Sunday-Thursday, at night. Casey and I teach the Preteen Bible Study, and it went pretty well. This was the first time Kailey actually got to participate in VBS, so it was fun to see what she came home with each night. There were only 2 kids in her class, so she created a lot! Other than that, it has been so hot lately, that I have been finding it hard to get motivated to do anything outside the house with her! I feel like a bad mother. We get up, eat breakfast, go for a 1.5 mile walk, and then chillax at home the rest of the day. So I guess now, come to think of it, maybe we haven't been too busy for me to post, maybe I have just been lazy! :) On Thursday and Friday I had a reading workshop. Blek. I hate workshops. But now I only have 6 hours until I have enough hours to renew my certificate in January! So that's good! Basically that is just one more workshop, which I will be completing on July 30. Well, I just wanted to blog a little to update on what we've been up to lately. Hopefully soon we'll do something cool that I can post pictures of! Stay cool friends!

Other fun things we did!

My last post from the weekend is just of a couple of fun things we did. These first pictures are of Kailey and Caden playing at "Kid City". They are really too small to climb up and play, but try telling them that! Kenya and I followed them all the way to the top, and then back down again. They had a lot of fun, and so did we.(When we weren't scared of breaking the playground!)







The night before we left to come back home, Kailey tried her first bowl of gumbo! She liked it a lot! In these pictures, she is really cheesin' it up for the camera. She had fun eating it.

4th of July Fun!

After we ran the 5K, on the morning of the fourth, we just hung out at Casey's parents for most of the day. Casey's dad made us a really yummy BBQ Rib lunch and we just were lazy most of the day. Here are some comparison pictures. These are from the fourth last year:

What a difference a year makes! We are smaller, and Kailey is much bigger! Good luck getting her to look at the camera, for example!

At the end of the day we traveled to downtown Shreveport to watch the fireworks display. Last year, Kailey was sleeping during the fireworks, so I was anxious to see her reaction to them! Part of the time she was pointing and smiling, but most of the time she didn't even act like she saw them! We were pretty far away from the actual show, though, so hopefully next year we'll be closer so she can see them better! Here are some shots of us watching the fireworks.

Firecracker 5K

While in Shreveport, we decided to participate in the Firecracker 5K. Casey and I have both been running some, (he has much more than me!) so we decided to give it a try. Casey ran the whole thing, David ran most of it, and then Kenya and I probably ran half of it and walked half of it. It was so much fun though! It was through this beautiful neighborhood in Shreveport. We had fun looking at all the pretty houses! Also, people were out in their driveways giving us popsicles, water bottles, etc. Some people even set up sprinklers that sprayed us as we ran. We had a really great time. I would definitely do it again!

Gators and Friends

This is the first post of many about our 4th of July trip to Shreveport to spend time with Casey's family! On the first full day we were there, Casey's mom, his sister Kenya, and I took Kailey and her cousin Caden to visit an Alligator farm called "Gators and Friends". It was very hot, but really cute and fun. They had all sorts of animals you could feed, and then they had tons of alligators swimming around in slime. It was really cool. Here are some pictures of us feeding the "beebra" (zebra), deer, water buffalo, llamas, and camels. Kailey was a bit worried about all of these animals! The part that Kailey (and I) enjoyed the most was watching the "allgoos" (alligators) swim around in the slime. It was really neat. There were probably at least a hundred alligators. Here are a few pics (including one of Kenya and I with the babies and a baby alligator!), and a video of the alligators being fed their lunch! As you can see, the babies had no fear of the baby alligator. At one point Caden was whacking his back and Kailey was whacking his mouth. Luckily it was taped closed!
